Yesterday’s first day of ViennaUP saw one of the bigger events, the Startup World Cup Austria 2024, take place. Organized by invest.austria and AustrianStartups, twelve startups that had previously qualified in regional pre-events pitched for a place in the global final in Silicon Valley. Vienna-based biotech Cellectric won in front of the jury consisting of Nina Wöss, Renate Schnutt, Werner Müller, Florian Slezak and Patrick Pirchegger. It was up against Ada Growth, Clone it, Flamengo, Predicting Health, Qorby, Sendance, Sevenbel, Termite Intelligence, Totoy, Trusted Accounts and Upstrive.
Diagnosis of blood poisoning to be followed by further Cellectric use cases
Cellectric has developed a new, significantly faster method for diagnosing blood poisoning. The basis for this is a process for ‘electrodynamic cell manipulation’, which the two founders Klemens Wassermann and Terje Wimberger developed together at the AIT. In the medium term, this method will be used to cover other use cases in precision medicine. ‘With septicemia as its first business case, Cellectric aims to become the global market leader for electrodynamic applications in biotechnology and bioelectrical medicine,’ says the startup.
Funding from FFG and aws and investment from xista Science Ventures
Along the way, the company not only received several grants from the FFG and aws, but also an investment from xista Science Ventures. Cellectric has also won several prizes, including the Phönix Gründungspreis and the EY Scale-up Award as a ‘Rising Star’.
Chance of a million dollar investment at the Startup World Cup final
Winning the Startup World Cup Austria comes with a number of non-cash prizes, most notably a package worth EUR 50,000 from A1, which includes services from the A1 cloud subsidiary Exoscale. At the Startup World Cup final in Silicon Valley, for which Cellectric qualified with its victory in Vienna, there is then the chance of an investment of over one million US dollars from VC Pegasus Tech Ventures.
